About the University church
Every week a group of your neighbors and associates comes together to renew their faith and to encourage each other. They are known as the University church of Christ. The University church is a group of Christians deeply committed to the truth found in God’s Word - The Bible. For over 50 years this independent group of Christians has assembled each Sunday to worship their God and to learn more about His Word. They leave encouraged, refreshed and spiritually renewed for another week of service to their Lord.
The University church is different from most churches today in several ways. It begins with a firm commitment to the God of the Bible. We believe the Bible is our final source for knowing the mind of God. He shows no respect of persons. He has revealed the same truth to the entire world – and that truth is found in the Bible. We can know the mind of God only by going to this Book of Books.
We recognize the Bible as our final authority for all we believe and practice. We want to be able to turn to God’s Word to give a reason for our hope and for how we serve Him. Our service is not based upon the ideas and traditions of men but upon God’s Word alone. If we cannot show from God’s Word that He approves something we practice, then we should cease to practice it. God’s Word is final.
We believe true discipleship involves a complete submission to the will of our Father. The apostle Paul called our life “a living sacrifice, wholly acceptable to God, which is our reasonable service” (Romans 12:1). Each University member is encouraged to find the joy of true discipleship – a life of happy devotion to our Lord. God wants dedicated disciples who want to give Him their all. He is disappointed with lukewarm service (Rev. 3:16) and expects all Christians to “grow in the grace and knowledge or our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2ndPeter 3:18).
The University family is dedicated to helping each member be what God wants them to be. By using the power of the scriptures for “teaching, instruction, correction, and even reproof” we become “completely furnished unto every good work” (2ndTimothy 3:16, 17). Those who love each other both commend and correct each other according to God’s Word. That is what makes a family strong and loving.
We believe you will find in the University church a family of Christians who love the Lord and each other. They are genuine people who want to serve the Lord according to His Word. We are united in following His inspired book and in helping each other go to heaven. You will find that we are dedicated to preaching the “whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27). Teaching is not diluted with the opinions and philosophies of men. It seeks to be free from the shackles of human tradition and errors. In this we find faith and strength. We invite you to find what we have found through such dedication to our God. Be our guest next Sunday and discover simple New Testament Christianity.
