Picking a Wedding Date
Picking a Wedding Date
Lots of factors might play into a couple’s choice of a wedding date. Vacation time, family obligations, venue availability among other issues can make the selection challenging sometimes. But for some couples married last Friday the date was decided by the calendar date itself – 11/11/11.
November 11 marked the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011. Around the world, people celebrated the triple convergence of 11’s with a splash. Some 1,000 ethnic Chinese couples exchanged vows across Malaysia on a date viewed as auspicious and romantic. "The numbers rhyme with one husband, one wife and one soul in Chinese and signifies a marriage that would last a lifetime," said nurse Pua Kim Giok, 25, who tied the knot with engineer Lee Chin Siong, 27. They were among 460 couples who got married at the popular Thean Hou Temple in Kuala Lumpur.
In Las Vegas, Clark County Clerk Diana Alba got ready for an onslaught of weddings. She was expecting the number of couples to surpass the crowd on 08/08/08 and equal the throng on 10/10/10. It may not, however, reach the turnout seen on July 7, 2007 - a date that consists of three lucky sevens. "That was like the granddaddy of all dates," Alba said.
If you are hoping for a successful marriage I hope you realize that there is more to marital bliss than picking a good wedding date. Thinking you will have connubial bliss because you picked a good wedding date reminds me of people who think reading and following their horoscope will lead them to a happy life. Marital happiness is found in making a good choice for a mate based on biblical principles. Then you work at your marriage the rest of your life. Husbands, love your wife as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for her (Eph. 5:25). Wives, love your husbands and children, be self-controlled and pure, be busy at home, kind, and subject to your husband (Titus 2:4,5). Here is where marital success is found.
The one good reason I read why one man said he liked getting married on 11/11/11 was it would make his anniversary easy to remember. Now that’s a man who knows how to pick a wedding date. -Steve P.
