Grace Upon Grace
It’s nice to take a breath once in a while from the hustle and bustle of life and be silent. Discover anew the wonder of stillness and solitude in a sea of tranquility. And to contemplate and meditate on what is truly important. And it’s in moments like these where we need to see the entirety of Scripture, both old and new, and the laws of God as grace. Isn’t that in fact what John declares in his gospel?
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 1.16-17

Images naturally flood our minds as we ponder these words. The intricate tapestry woven from the threads of time. Unveiling a beautiful and complex pattern that shows us who our Creator really is. Longsuffering. Steadfast love. Merciful. Gracious. Yes, God is revealing Himself to us. And additionally, we should see ourselves and our shortcomings. And thus, the need for grace.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. But He can raise us up from the quagmire of sin. We can start anew. Cleansed. Through the grace He has provided. The King of kings is pouring out the riches of His grace. He died and rose again to secure us God’s blessings. His truth frees us from sin.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
Ephesians 2.4-7
Shout it from the rooftops! Grace and truth have been fully realized in Christ. And for that we are eternally grateful.
