Are We Living in the End Times?

On one hand, Scripture tells us no one knows - that the end comes suddenly and unannounced. On the other hand, we understand historically that the cup of God’s wrath/judgment eventually fills. When? Only He knows.

The better question: Where are we on the timeline of history? Again, only God knows.

One thing we know: God acts in history. At a certain point in historical time, He created the world. At a certain point in historical time, He called Abraham, raised up Moses, and sent Jesus into our world. This is as true as the historical time in which Washington was inaugurated (1789) or Lincoln assassinated (1865).

God acts within the context of historical time and will act again. Sadly, some adopt the doctrine of cessationism: God is either dead or asleep. It’s essential, however, that we believe He is neither dead nor asleep, but very much alive, awake, and calling His people to a faith that is as alive and awake as is He.

Sadly, some believers have become so secularized that they have moved their faith to a quiet religious corner where it doesn’t bother anyone. To them, faith is nothing more than a hobby - something done in our free time. True faith is the opposite.

We wouldn’t want to be like those first century radical believers - persecuted for their faith because they dared to speak. Instead, we opt for “safe Christianity” lest our neighbors think us odd.

After all, there’s no cause for concern, right?
